Ouch!!

Kimberlee has wanted to learn how to do the monkey bars for a couple years now. She would beg Ed and I to hold onto her legs and help her across. On Friday morning she got tired of needing help and decided to go for it herself. She did great! She made it halfway across about 20 times, then she'd get stuck and drop to the ground. I finally told her she could do it two more times and then we'd have to go home (it was getting really hot). On her last try she slipped and apparently tried to break her fall with her arm...she broke it. The ER is on a different base, one that I had never been on, so I said a prayer that we would find it and threw all the girls in the car. We got there very quickly, and even more impressive, we were seen in the ER right away. They decided to just put a splint on it and made us an appointment at the orthopedic clinic for a cast. Kimberlee was so brave and by the time we got home she acted like she didn't even need the vicodin they prescribed for her. We gave it to her anyway. We spent that evening watching movies and pampering Kimberlee, which caused quite a few tantrums from Keira. I think Keira has tried to come up with a few ways she could break a bone - it seems so cool! She pinched her leg at one point and cried that it was broken and she wanted a cast for us to draw with markers on.
On Monday we went in to get Kimberlee's cast. The splint was awful,

and the makeshift sling they had given her was even worse, so we were really excited for the cast. They were so nice in Ortho, and Kimberlee was so brave again - I cannot believe that girl's tolerance for pain. They split the cast because she had some significant swelling. Next week we'll go in and they'll re-wrap it and do more x-rays, and then in 3 weeks they'll give her a short-arm cast. She'll have to be in a cast for a total of 6 weeks. I haven't had the heart to tell her that means no swim lessons and how that will significantly cut into her beach time. For now she is soooo happy to have a cast, and even happier that it's bright pink. She thinks maybe she'll get a green one in a couple of weeks.

In other news, Ed was made 1st Counselor in the Branch Presidency on Sunday, and I was sustained as 1st counselor in the Relief Society. It looks like Ed will have to figure out his calling quickly. There is no second counselor, as of yet, and in a week the branch president is going back to the states for 6 weeks. No easing in slowly there!
